Here’s the story of Corinna, one of our followers: “I am a Filipina who likes to dance casino (not quite as popular as LA and NY styles here in Asia), but first learned how to dance salsa this way with Colombianos in Bangkok 20 years ago. Your posts resonate very much with me. Dancing here in Asia can be very technical, and dancing Latino style really just allows one to relax, connect, and enjoy. My night lights up when there are Colombianos, Venezolanos, Dominicanos, Panameños, Peruanos, Cubanos to dance with. My only regret is that sometimes they are apologetic that they do not dance NY or LA style, which are predominant in Asia. I often ask who taught them how to dance, and the benchmark is when they say it was their Mama or Abuelita, then I am happy!” This is what social Latin dance is about. It’s not about whether you know the latest trend, it’s about rhythm, family, culture, and the joy that comes with it. If you’ve ever felt caught between technical steps and cultural flow

Salsa is salsa. But not all salsa keeps its roots alive. There are so many ways salsa is danced today. Some styles stay close to where it came from. Others drift away. And that’s normal, people approach dance differently. Some prefer to preserve the culture. Others don’t care if it changes. But here, we do. Because salsa isn’t just steps, it’s culture, rhythm, and a way of moving that comes from the people and the music that created it. When those roots are honored, the dance feels authentic. When they’re forgotten, the steps may be there, but the soul is missing. That’s why in this space, I teach salsa the cultural way: – grounded in rhythm – natural in movement – connected to the music and its origins Because salsa is more than a list of moves. It’s most alive when its roots are alive. If you’ve been craving salsa that feels natural, connected, and true to its culture, this is the space for you. Although, he’s taking about pro dancers, it’s Interesting how so many dance just to show what they can do, instead of dancing for the audience. But this applies just as much to people learning to dance socially. If you’re doing moves you don’t connect with, if you’re copying patterns you don’t even enjoy, it’s always going to feel forced. That’s why sometimes trained dancers look rehearsed. And why beginners who chase flashy moves end up more stressed than free. Because the movement isn’t coming from belief, it’s coming from pressure to prove. When you dance what you actually believe in, (perhaps for a beginner) simple steps, clean rhythm, moving in a way that feels good, you stop performing and start feeling. That’s what makes social dancing powerful: it’s lived, not presented. If you’ve been learning in a way that doesn’t feel like you, maybe it’s time to change the approach. One where you believe in every step you take. For 1-1 online lessons email boogie.latino@gmail.com

One of my followers shared this story, and it’s too good not to post:☺️ “I grew up taking ballroom classes, Cha Cha, Samba, Jive, even Salsa. It was polished and structured… but it never felt like me. Then I went to a friend’s quinceañera and saw an older Dominican couple dancing bachata, simple, beautiful, natural. I thought: that’s what I want to learn. So I watched Puerto Ricans and Dominicans dance. No crazy moves. Just rhythm, joy, and fun. Now when I dance, it heals me. It’s not about proving anything, it’s just me, my partner, and the music.” This is exactly the difference I talk about all the time. Dance doesn’t have to be overly structured, complicated, or polished to feel good. It can be simple, natural, and joyful and still touch everyone in the room. That’s the beauty of cultural social dancing. 💃🏽🕺🏽 If this story resonates with you, maybe it’s time to explore dancing in a way that feels natural to you. That’s what I teach😃 For 1-1 online lessons email boogie.l

So many beginners think the problem is the steps. They learn them, repeat them, and still feel awkward like something’s missing. But the issue isn’t the step itself. It’s how your body works together when you do it. One person does a basic step and it looks stiff, disconnected. Another does the exact same step and it looks like real dancing. The difference isn’t talent. It’s coordination. The way your arms, legs, and body flow as one instead of fighting each other. That’s why in my teaching, we don’t just “stack moves.” We build body control, rhythm, and awareness so coordination becomes natural. Because once your body moves together, even the simplest step feels smooth and actually looks like dancing. If you’ve been practicing steps but still feel like something looks off, it’s probably not the step. It’s coordination and I can help you unlock it. So many beginners stress about appearance. Am I doing it right? Do I look awkward? Are people watching me? That pressure makes dancing feel heavy like you’re performing instead of enjoying. But here’s the thing: dancing isn’t about how it looks. It’s about how it feels. When you stop overthinking how you look or comparing yourself, the rhythm takes over. You smile without forcing it. Your body relaxes. And suddenly, the dance feels like joy instead of effort. That’s what people notice, not a “perfect look,” but the energy of someone genuinely enjoying themselves. This is why I teach with comfort and rhythm first. Because when your body feels natural in the music, you stop worrying about appearance. Confidence comes from feeling good, not from faking it. If you’ve been stuck worrying how you look, maybe it’s time to try another way. One where the music feels good, and your dancing finally feels like you. They’re on time, they’re controlled… so why do trained dancers sometimes look like they don’t feel the music? At socials, you’ll often see dancers who have trained formally. Their timing is sharp. Their body control is obvious. On paper, it looks perfect. And yet… many people watching feel like something’s missing. It doesn’t look like the music is moving them. Because while the steps are there, the feeling often isn’t. It can come across as rehearsed, like a routine being presented rather than a dance being lived. The smile sometimes says “look at me” more than “I’m enjoying this.” It feels polished, but not playful. Structured, but not alive. Meanwhile, cultural social dancers don’t try to impress. They let the rhythm move through them, adapt to the song and their partner, and show joy in the moment. It’s less about proving, more about being. That’s why I teach social Latin dance the cultural way. Not performance tricks. Not rehearsed routines. But rhythm, body awareness, and

A routine that might look amazing on stage doesn’t always feel the same at a social. In a theater or competition, big styling, sharp lines, and dramatic tricks make sense. They’re designed to grab attention. That’s the point of performance. But when those same moves spill into social spaces, it can feel different. For many people, especially beginners, it looks intense, intimidating, even disconnected from the easy, joyful vibe they expect in a social dance. It’s not that formalized dancing is wrong( please don’t feel offended) It just has a purpose: to showcase skill. But when brought into spaces meant for relaxation, connection, and fun, it can feel out of place. Cultural social dance was never about being watched, it was about being in it. Feeling the rhythm. Moving with ease. Enjoying the partner and the music. That’s why some people instinctively feel more comfortable around simple, grounded dancing in socials. Because it matches the space: natural, musical, and human. If y

A lot of beginners believe they have to add arms, flair, or “styling” to look like a dancer. But most of the time, those extra layers just make people feel more stiff and self-conscious. The truth is, confidence doesn’t come from adding more. It comes from making less look better. Think about it: when your steps are clean, when you move with control, when you feel in rhythm… you don’t need to throw your arms around to prove anything. People see confidence in the way you carry yourself, not in how many flourishes you add. That’s why in my classes, I don’t pile on styling. I help you build comfort in your body, control in your movements, and rhythm in your timing. Once those are in place, even the simplest step looks good and you feel confident doing it. If you’ve been trying to “look like a dancer” by adding more, maybe it’s time to try a different way. One where simple feels confident, and confidence is what people notice most. So many people think they have to dance fast to be seen as a good dancer. They rush through moves, chase the beat, and end up looking busy instead of connected. But the truth is, speed doesn’t make a dance feel good. Comfort does. Think about it: when you’re tense and rushing, your partner feels it. But when you move smoothly, stay grounded, and let the rhythm guide you, the whole dance feels better. That’s when people want to dance with you again, not because you looked fast, but because it felt good. This is exactly what I focus on teaching, how to build body control so your steps feel clean, how to connect with the rhythm so you’re always on time, and how to dance in a way that feels natural, not forced. It’s not about cramming in speed, it’s about finding ease. If you’ve been stuck thinking “faster is better,” it might be time to try a different way. One where rhythm and comfort guide you and where dancing finally feels natural. Send me a message and I’ll show you how.

Most people think learning to dance is just about memorising steps. And yes, moves can be taught in a few minutes. But comfort? That’s different. Feeling at ease in your body. Trusting the rhythm instead of second-guessing it. Not worrying if you “look silly,” and just letting the music guide you. That doesn’t come from a move list. It comes from practice, the right kind of practice. In my classes, we don’t pile on combinations that make you feel more stressed. We work on the little things that actually make you feel confident: ✔ body control so your movements feel clean ✔ rhythm so you know you’re on time ✔ connection so you stop worrying and start enjoying Because when you feel comfortable, the dance finally feels natural and that’s when people say, “Wow, you actually look like you’re dancing.” If you’ve been stuck learning steps but still don’t feel comfortable on the floor, this is exactly what I help students with. Anyone can memorise steps. But not everyone can read the music… or their partner. In trained socials, you often see people running through combinations, almost like they’re checking boxes. But in cultural spaces, the music decides and the dancers adjust. A true social dancer doesn’t force every song into the same routine. They adapt their timing, their energy, their movements so the dance feels alive, not rehearsed. That’s why someone with just a few steps but great adaptability will always feel more fun to dance with than someone showing off a list of moves that never fit the song. Adaptation is the real skill. Because every partner, every track, every moment is different. If you’ve been stuck memorizing moves and want to actually feel the music and adapt like a natural social dancer, this is exactly what I teach.☺️ For 1-1 online lessons email boogie.latino@gmail.com visit https://boogielatino.com.au #latindanceforbeginners #salsasocialstyle #latindanccewithconfidence #dance
