Li'Rann Dance in Yarraville

OUR MODERN WEST COAST SWING LINCE DANCE... we use it as a warm up, and to practice little pieces of movement that we can incorporate into different steps at different times with our social dancing :-) You can spot a Hitch, a Lock Step, a Ronde, a Triple Travel Turn (great way to practice stepping out of a turn instead of falling out!), a triple replacing a double, a double replacing a triple, a Cross Replace Redirect, and even a syncopate before the one count... lots of little movements to play with! Our beginners did such an awesome job learning this, they powered through and got it all in an hour... well done All!! Join us at The Victoria Hotel in Yarraville every Thurs night, and remember every dancer started somewhere, so why not start with us?! SEE YOU ON THE DANCE FLOOR :-)

Hands Up (featuring DNCE) We did decide to swap the "step lock" and the "step hitch" with each other so that they work better to the music, but here is the original version :-)

NEW LINE DANCE to WEST COAST by YAM HAUS... perfect for Level 1 dancers who are new to movement and great to help build confidence in moving to music 🙂 You'll dance through slides, hitches, rondes, double turns, triple steps and double steps that translate easily into West Coast Swing and other dance styles. Have fun!

All the dancers were amazing today!! One of our topics was changing up our anchor step, and we had the followers add a ronde + hitch, and the leaders both a ronde AND a sailor shuffle :-) With our Whip we added a new technique and a new way of looking at the "4 + 5" counts to help us sit and stretch better into the direction change, and to make the whip really WHIP!

WCS Recap... we always start beginners off with Left Side Pass and Right Side Underarm Turn... and this week we not only learnt a Whip, but everyone did an amazing job at a Reverse Entry into a Whip! Even though a leader can do a soft lead into the Reverse Entry, it can be harder for a novice to both lead and follow and can be easily misconstrued, so we did a Prep Step into it and made the lead obvious so that follows can more comfortably know what's happening :-)

INTERNATIONAL RALLY WEST COAST SWING FLASH MOB... MELBOURNE STYLE!! This was seriously so much fun and we spent the entire day performing at 6 different locations around the Melbourne CBD 😉 Every year the amazing Olivier + Virginie Massart choreograph the flashmob which dancers learn from youtube tutorials. Then, on the same day all across the world, WCS dancers strut their stuff and the World grooves to West Coast Swing!! If you want to join in the fun, join a class, get social, and move to the West Coast Swing beat 😉 Try your first class for FREE at Li'Rann Dance... www.lirann.dance

We decided to shake up our basics and have a play today! Normally we go over Left Side Pass and Right Side Under Arm Turn, but we swapped it today and investigate how a Right Side Oass and a Left Side Under Arm Turn might look. We are getting ourselves used to being able to just "triple it out" and stay on time, even when we don't know what's happening :-)

In class tonight we got talking about how to roll through our feet, how to pick up our feet and knees, and how to not look like we are shambling :-) New students tonight did an awesome job for their first class and even managed a whip! Well done to everyone, looking fantastic ;-)
